The benefits of exercise are numerous and will help slow down the progress of the disease considerably. Over the last several years, boxing has become very popular within the Parkinson’s community. Boxing is a great exercise to do for people with Parkinson’s but it is just one area that needs to be focused on. To get a balanced approach you need to look at boxing, agility, mobility, flexibility, strength, cognitive and cardiovascular exercises to get the optimal results.

Recently Flex Fitness personal trainer, Alistair Hopper, took a course in “Changing Parkinson’s: Exercise as a Primary Treatment”. This course was instructed by Naomi Casiro who is the owner and operator of NeuroFit BC, located in Vancouver. This course offered a great amount of useful information and skills to help properly assess, then implement an effective program for clients with Parkinson’s Disease. The biggest message taken from this weekend was that these clients are athletes who need to be challenged and pushed to get the results they are wanting.
